Ferrari World Abu Dhabi

Ferrari World Abu Dhabi is the world’s largest indoor theme park. It is the winner of the Hospitality & Leisure Project of the Year. It is designed by Benoy for Aldar Properties, the theme park offers more than 20 rides and attractions, and one of them is the world’s fastest rollercoaster.

Benoy’s gigantic building that launched in November 2010, shows some stunning proportions. It extends 700 meters from tip to tip, the project’s sketch includes an enclosed footprint of 100,000 m2. The total surface area of the huge red ceiling is 200,000 m2, while the total perimeter of the ceiling is 2,200 m2. The apex of the construction reaches 45 meters.

Ferrari World is located at the center of Aldar’s 36 billion dollar Yas Island, a gigantic leisure resort that hosts the emirate’s F1 Grand Prix. Due to the form of the island and the location of the site, the structure was visualized as a simple ‘ground hugging’ shape. In schema, the structure is a three pointed star with a major core including element and three large ‘tri-form’ arms cradling the exterior attractions.


Benoy’s dream was to design a structure that was remarkably Ferrari. Accordingly, the architectural solution is considered to mirror Ferrari’s sinuous shape, totally inspired by the classic double curve side of the Ferrari GT chassis. The double curve was consistently implemented in elevation once the function and scale of the indoor areas had been concluded, determining the height and length of the construction.


Functional necessities included housing the attractions in a big environmentally controlled area while permitting the attractions to work properly with the racetrack, rollercoasters and the other facilities of the theme park.

The metal skinned red ceiling was designed with sparkling silver edging, and it forms the background to the hugest Ferrari logo in the world, at 65 meters by 48.5 meters. The ceiling is highly isolated while the major façades uses a properly heated glass to reduce loads and glow.
